The Zofin Palace it is situated in the heart ofPrague on the SlovanskyIsland. The neo-renaissance building was constructedin honor of the archduchessSofie, mother of the emperor Franz Josef I. Theisland shores offer the mostbeautiful views of Prague and the Prague Castle.Since the middle of thelast century, Zofin has become a cultural center ofPrague. The Zofín Palacewas designed in 1885-87 byJindrich Fialka. The1930s saw a garden, restaurant, and a musicalpavilion added to the Palace. While architecturalcritics of the day decried this warping of theoriginal design, the public applauded these clearlyutilitarian changes. In1992-94, this cultural landmark was reconstructedaccording to TomasSantavsky's studio project. Nowadays, significantcultural and socialevents of international importance take place thereand the Zofín Palacethus carries on nobly and with antique pride itsrich tradition.
