After touring the colonnade, we can cross the street and go up the steps leading to the most important church in the town - the Maria Magdalena Church. The church towers like a protector above the Sprudel. It is one of the best examples of the church Baroque style in Bohemia. The church was designed by the architect Gillean Ignatius Dienzenhofer from Prague, and built between 1732 and 1736. There is a precious altar-piece by Elias Dollhopf from Horní Slavkov in the church. It depicts St. Mary Magdalene. In the layers of sprudel-stone and granite under the church, there are big crypts. The church was damaged by fire in 1759. Two of its towers burnt down completely and the original onion-shaped domes were replaced with simple ridge roofs. The onion-shaped domes were restored only in 1861. A half-timbered church used to stand on the site of the present church in the Middle Ages. The old church was mentioned for the first time in 1485. For centuries, the church was run by the Order of the Knights of the Cross with a Red Star. After 1990, the church was returned to this order.
